It's been a wild ride!  Here are some of the newslinks from yesterday.  If there are some I have missed that are different from those posted (we don't need 1,000 copies of the same AP story), please let me know.

Also, tomorrow morning, March 2, Patience and I will be on WEPM radio at 9:30 a.m.  You can listen live here.

The Journal (long version of AP story)  Look for more in the Journal tomorrow -- our regular reporter wasn't working yesterday.

The Hur Herald - once again, this independent, online news source comes out with the best coverage.

WV Metro News - again, not quite accurate (how do they DO this when they have a recording of what I said?)  Lest any middle-aged, nerdy-looking, white guys get a false sense of security after reading that last sentence... I'm not waiting for you to attempt a comeback.  Game. On. Now.

Second Journal article - Don't even get me started on some of these politicians!  We all know which ones were our allies during the war.

Pittsburgh Business Times - this blog is pretty funny!  Be sure to click through on the link to last year's post.  Shareholders were expecting a 50-cent-per-share price bump associated with the project.  Greed, not need.

Clarke Daily News - It's a very good day!

Business Week - Short AP version

WAMU/NPR Radio - This story is an absolute mess.  How the reporter managed to get this screwed up in a brief, 5 minute interview I'll never know.... but he seemed to pick the right sound bite :-)  However... all this wasted money was recovered from ratepayers to finance the project, money out of the pockets of landowners defending themselves, and money out of the pockets of taxpayers while the three state commissions were forced to pour more time & money down the PATH rathole for nearly 2 years while these cases dragged on.

NBC25 - CAKES uncorks the champagne!

TV3Winchester - "Worth the effort"

NJ Spotlight - Susquehanna-Roseland victims take heart because of our victory.

Loudoun Times Mirror - the last sentence is a scream!

Leesburg Today - Virginia opponents ecstatic!

Renew Grid - Someone just sent me this one with the note "This is an interesting take on it."  I'd give you credit... but the only ID it gave me was your IP number.
The Weston Democrat - Good article, but the last part claims that ratepayers "would have been assessed..."  We're already paying for it and will continue to do so indefinitely under PATH's "suspension" scheme!  If we let them.

I was wondering why there was only a little blub in today's Journal and that it came from Charleston. I was hoping it would be on the front page today but maybe tomorrow. And Mr. Buckles rightly deserved being on the front page today anyway.

Indeed! Isn't it funny how things always seem to work themselves out?

I have found all the media coverage of the PATH collapse to be extremely poor, except the Loudoun and Leesburg papers. I think both these papers have editors and/or specific reporters who were experienced covering TrAIL before PATH came along. They know the SCC process and can interpret what is going on. None of the other outlets managed anything close to their analysis. I found even Ken Ward's coverage on Coal Tattoo to be a rudimentary restatement of Boston's BS from PJM.

Let's move on. Nothing to see here. The TV coverage which framed the whole story with "not in my backyard" was quite simply an outrage. AEP or FirstEnergy could have been doing their writing.

Don't forget the Hur Herald.

Agreed, bh, but I really think the TV stations just don't get it that NIMBY is an insult and was never what it was about.

And I'm sure you know there were worse articles -- you know, those one-sided regurgitated press releases.

I think some of the outlets did okay... like the first AP guy who called me to give me the news. Where did he get my name & number? That took a little effort... I'm sure he didn't get it from PATH :-) Ditto on the wamu guy.

OK, most are regurgitated from AP and from StockAnalyst, but I found it entertaining that we hit the IndiaMuslim News and Several Asia publications - not to mention Australia and New Zealand -- the place the spawned the fakey fakey substation films. I guess Credit Suisse might finally catch on, huh?

I have had regular readers of The Power Line from India and Pakistan. I mean weekly if not daily for at least a year. These are countries with rapidly rising populations and electricity demand. If their engineers can head off US mistakes, more power to them. (so to speak)

Bottom line ... WE accomplished our mission! We have defeated PATH! Now as we all know there is still more work to be done. PATH thinks we will quietly just "go away" while they sneak in the backdoor? HAH! Total foolishness! I once told Randy Palmer (to his face) that we will NEVER "go away" until they do the right thing and stop this project in its entirety! We have some mess they are leaving the door open for that we will continue hammering away at until the final nail is in the coffin for PATH! BTW, I know PATH reads this blog religiously, so just keep this in mind folks we aint quitin till you're done trying to shaft the ratepayers for good. I have NO PROBLEM with honest business making HONEST profit, however, you all (PATH) have proven that you in no way ever intend to conduct honest and fair business, so guys, it's up to us to keep you "in check."

Got home from doing WEPM this morning to a message from Metro News radio. So, I did that interview too. I know WEPM won't be linkable and I have no idea about MetroNews, haven't even looked yet because I had to dash back out the door, but I'd be interested to hear what they did with it, if anyone finds it or hears it. I have a feeling it's going to be like NPR the other day... a bunch of people said, "I heard you on the radio" and my response was... "great, what did I say?" :-)

    About the Author

Keryn Newman blogs here at StopPATH WV about energy issues, transmission policy, misguided regulation, our greedy energy companies and their corporate spin.
In 2008, AEP & Allegheny Energy's PATH joint venture used their transmission line routing etch-a-sketch to draw a 765kV line across the street from her house. Oooops! And the rest is history.

    About
    StopPATH Blog

StopPATH Blog began as a forum for information and opinion about the PATH transmission project.  The PATH project was abandoned in 2012, however, this blog was not.

StopPATH Blog continues to bring you energy policy news and opinion from a consumer's point of view.  If it's sometimes snarky and oftentimes irreverent, just remember that the truth isn't pretty.  People come here because they want the truth, instead of the usual dreadful lies this industry continues to tell itself.  If you keep reading, I'll keep writing.
