Jefferson County celebrates!

3/1/2011

The Jefferson County Intervenors Group (JCIG) ceased to formally exist around 5:00 this evening when the WV-PSC (who originally forced 140 individuals into this "group") issued an order dismissing the WV PATH case (without prejudice, but that's fodder for another post).

At 7:00 some of us gathered at one of our regularly scheduled Intervenors' Meetings -- this one in Summit Point.  We determined that while JCIG had been dispensed with, StopPATH WV, Inc. will live on to finish the job we started.

We also came up with preliminary plans for a big, public celebration to be held in the near future when the weather warms up sufficiently for an outdoor event, to allow for the huge crowd we're expecting.

And then... it was party time!  Yes, that's non-alcoholic champagne (we meet in a church basement, for goodness sake!) and I have no idea what the name of it was!

I would like to say I will miss all of our new found friends, however, I know that's just not possible. We have come a LONG way together and still have quite a bit of unfinished business to take care of. And as we all know, we have learned so much about our system in West Virginia and about sooooo many things being done wrong here, I'm sure there are any number of battles we will be in throughout the ages. I am so glad to have found such a group of intelligent, funny, hard working individuals to work with. Again thanks to all and lets stay on em till the right thing is DONE. THEN WE GO AFTER THE REST OF THE RIDICUFARCES TAKING PLACE!!!!

Hillbilly, I couldn't agree with you more. We have formed life long friendships which I know will continue. I hope all will still continue to comment on the blog,it was my daily entertainment. I'm sure we will find something else to comment on and have fun with. Too bad the time didn't come when I could see you in a suit. Maybe you could wear one at our celebration party.

And I actually caught you smiling in the pictures... you're not easy to impress, are ya?

A suit and a smile? What's next?

And I agree, Pam. As I looked around the room last night I realized how many great friends I have made in the past couple of years, and I never would have known anyone in the room like I do if we hadn't been "drawn together" on the PATH companies' transmission line sighting etch-a-sketch. Who knew? They pretended like they were drawing some kind of efficient route, but what they were really accomplishing was marking a bunch of people who weren't going to take their crap -- and now we've found each other. Who's next? (don't ask, I already smell another rat....)

I would love to personally meet those Ardent 360 people face to face and do a "nanny, nanny goo goo, we got you" to them because they were so sure PATH was going to go through. I couldn't pull up your radio interview this morning because my work blocks anything to do with music (even radio stations) so hope all went well. I have the picture with you lying on the table now set as my desk top, also have it hanging up in my office. Just savoring the moment.

Beats my desktop... and reminds me that it's probably time for a change. I've had a closeup of the snarly mess of power lines down on Old Cave that came out of the photo shoot I did for the brochure since last year (as if I needed a reminder every time I sat down at my desk). I'm sure there are some good pictures of Ale in my PATH file that might be a nice change... of course how could I get anything accomplished if I started laughing every time I sat down?

I think I shal set my new screen pic as the "pie in the face" pic. It only seems fitting that you got pie in the face all in the name of puttting egg in theirs!

    About the Author

Keryn Newman blogs here at StopPATH WV about energy issues, transmission policy, misguided regulation, our greedy energy companies and their corporate spin.
In 2008, AEP & Allegheny Energy's PATH joint venture used their transmission line routing etch-a-sketch to draw a 765kV line across the street from her house. Oooops! And the rest is history.

    About
    StopPATH Blog

StopPATH Blog began as a forum for information and opinion about the PATH transmission project.  The PATH project was abandoned in 2012, however, this blog was not.

StopPATH Blog continues to bring you energy policy news and opinion from a consumer's point of view.  If it's sometimes snarky and oftentimes irreverent, just remember that the truth isn't pretty.  People come here because they want the truth, instead of the usual dreadful lies this industry continues to tell itself.  If you keep reading, I'll keep writing.
