Dominion contractors showed up on Old Cave Road in Jefferson County today to begin work on a portion of the Mt. Storm - Doubs rebuild project, and immediately got down to business annoying residents and tearing up Willingham Knolls Park. This is what that stretch of right-of-way looked like before Dominion showed up. We'll be watching to see how it changes. A conclusion that shows Dominion's respect for the landowners wouldn't see much change at all. However, this is what happened when Dominion's contractors began cutting an access road: Dominion's disrespectful contractors also made themselves at home by parking their unmarked vehicles in the entrance to the subdivision across the street from the work zone and blocking the road and residents' access to mailboxes and a school bus stop. How rude! If Dominion is working on Willingham Knolls Park property, there's a perfectly good gravel parking lot at the park just down the hill and a short walk from the work site. A little exercise would do these fellas good. Not quite the auspicious beginning you promised us, Dominion. Please show a little more respect for the residents to foster a mutually beneficial working environment. We'll be watching...

The pictures should be working now. If you still can't see them, click "reload" or "refresh." If you still can't see them after that, let me know.

Pictures are showing fine. Unfortunately, I don't need pictures, I get to see this in action everyday. I will be watching very closely. The claim that was made way back when that, "we are not PATH," seem to be alot of fluff. So far, I'm seeing very little difference in the way they treat the neighbors.

It will be interesting to see what they do when they come up my way on the mountain. Our roads are already in bad shape, dirt roads with very little gravel. I may not be able to get in and out of my development. I'll keep you posted once I see activity up there.

In the Journal today it says they are having a kite fly on Saturday at 2 at Willingham Knolls Park. Hope the kites won't get caught in the electric wire.

I don't see how they can't get caught in wires there. The park has Dominion's 500kV MSD line, Allegheny's (or whatever they want to call themselves now) 138kV line and a distribution line or two. When I was shooting photos for the landowner brochure we developed, it provided some great material - wires, wires everywhere! (and still one of my favorite transmission line shots). Maybe they can limit the amount of kite string allowed at the park to prevent accidents... but how cool would that place look now with a bunch of colorful kites caught up in the wire? Hmm... charging camera....

About the Author Keryn Newman blogs here at StopPATH WV about energy issues, transmission policy, misguided regulation, our greedy energy companies and their corporate spin.
In 2008, AEP & Allegheny Energy's PATH joint venture used their transmission line routing etch-a-sketch to draw a 765kV line across the street from her house. Oooops! And the rest is history. About
