Jerkwater Jimmy Amuses Crowd in Mendota by Dressing Up Like a Farmer

10/28/2013

Trick or treat, Jimmy!  Is that your Halloween costume?

Clean Line Energy Partners' Jimmy Glotfelty came to Mendota dressed as a "farmer" tonight!
Who dressed Jimmy tonight?  Stupid, stupid, stupid!

The "chore coat" is a political campaign tactic intended to disguise a privileged, super-rich candidate who has never done an honest day's work and make him appear to be "a regular working guy."  The tactic became mainstream when used by unsuccessful presidential candidate John Kerry in 2004.  Use of this political styling tactic has exploded recently, including use by Illinois gubernatorial hopeful Bruce Rauner.

Jimmy was seen in Mendota with Aaron Chambers, of the firm ThomsonWeir.  ThomsonWeir performs public relations services for their well-heeled corporate and political clients.  "We craft client-specific messages and tailor client communications outreach, whether through conventional news media or through new media tools, to engage and educate local audiences about client priorities."

Aaron Chambers was found sitting alone way up high in the bleachers at Mendota High School, where he was furiously scribbling copious notes on every speaker who opposed RICL.  When one of his bleacher neighbors looked over his shoulder to see what he was writing, she saw him drawing diagrams that looked a lot like this:
Ah ha!  I think we've found the source of the "chore coat to make Jimmy more likable in Mendota" idea!

This really wasn't a good idea!  Why not just have Jimmy walk through the gym holding up a blinking neon sign that says "I think you all are STOO-PID!"?  Same effect.

I have to wonder... has Aaron watched the movie Promised Land recently?  In that movie, the carpetbagging corporate agents sent to a small town to purchase gas rights from unsuspecting "locals" make the farm store their first stop in town, where they load up on chore coats, boots, plaid shirts and khaki work pants in an attempt to "fit in."

Do you think Jimmy or the other Clean Line executives pondered Aaron's advice before stopping by the farm supply store and picking up Jimmy's costume?  Did they really think this was a genius idea?  Or were the employees simply too afraid to speak up and tell Jimmy he was making a big, big mistake that would turn him into the laughing stock of rural Illinois?
This is what Jimmy normally looks like.  We think.  Of course, it's hard to tell who Jimmy REALLY is because he's always trying to be someone he's not.

Ha ha ha ha ha!  We're laughing with you, Jimmy, honest!

And we would especially like to welcome all the representatives of Illinois's law enforcement community that have chosen to join us here tonight at Mendota High School.

We call this our Marketing to Mayberry costume. Very effective, don't you think?

Looks like Jimmy forgot to take off his $3000 watch when he put on his feed store chore coat.

It wasn't that cold in the gym. Jimmy must have been sweating in that coat.

Who would have recommended Jimmy wear that outfit?

When I first saw him I thought "Please tell me he just rolled into town and is going to change into his suit in a classroom!"

Isn't there someone on the Clean Line Team that could tell Jimmy "Don't do it."? I get the sense that to be a "Team Player" at CLE means marching in step with Jimmy, and no one dare disagree with him.

Was it just me or did several of the CLE folks seem a bit uptight? There were some who were relaxed and comfortable, but a lot of them seemed uptight and nervous.

The Illinois crowd was the opposite. We had a good time. We laughed and joked. Many of us recognized each other. It's interesting to watch and observe people act. The atmosphere of this event was almost polar opposite of the last one.

Perhaps seeing Jimmy dressed as he was served as a great ice breaker causing us all to relax a bit.

Sure there were some who are different and not as uptight. A couple of the CLE people helped the janitors clean the bleachers. Nice job. It didn't surprise me which ones were being helpful. I suspected there are a couple of good guys in this company and you proved me right. If I had to make a guess which of CLE's people are decent likable people, I would have chosen those who helped at the end. Maybe I just want to believe there is some good in this company.

In any case, don't think this is over. As much fun as all we had, we'll be seeing each other again in the upcoming GBE days.

Tip to the industry; Clean Line has showed us how to make these things comfortable and fun. Good luck attempting to make these events feel awkward to the public. They are a hoot. We had a good time, and the police...they were a great bunch of guys to joke around with.

This is what happens when the dynamic changes and the opposition gets the upper hand. It's all over now but the cryin'. The sooner Clean Line's investors realize this, the cheaper it will be in the end.

And some of you all wondered why said I love these public event confrontation moments last time I was there -- what you felt last night is a powerful (and addictive) emotion -- victory!

I was proud to see so many people from Mayberry! Jimmy might have dressed a bit like Andy, but he has a long way to go before he will be mistaken for a local!

Aaron Chambers, huh? The old RRStar reporter. Do you think that he had journalistic integrity while he was reporting for the Red Star, like any of those reporters who, after fleeing their failing publications, now work for the Obama administration? P.S. I remember when Kerry wore the hunting attire, right before his campaign imploded. From one failed candidate to another. Talk about good judgement when picking VPs.

I may be just a humble Mayberry barber, but even I could have told Jimmy not to do it.

But I guess all those years of experience developing transmission lines during his career is better counsel than common sense.

I wouldn't have sent Jimmy to Mendota a second time, no matter how he's dressed. He's now done in Illinois. Done.

CLEtos must be either slow learners or milking the investors for all their worth. CLE was done, done, done a long time ago. Funny how that probably didn't get conveyed up the chain......
