MD PSC to Hear Potomac Edison Meter Reading Scam Complaint June 20

6/4/2012

The Maryland Public Service Commission will hear the complaint of Sugarloaf Conservancy on June 20 at 10:00 a.m.  The item has been moved to the end of the agenda because the PSC suspects that they may have a full house on this matter, so expect to be there for a while.

The complaint details FirstEnergy subsidiary Potomac Edison's lack of performance reading residential electric meters as required by law.  The FirstEnergy Disappearing Meter Reader Scam has been going on since just after the Allegheny Energy/FirstEnergy merger last year.

You are welcome and encouraged to attend the hearing.  Directions to the PSC can be found here.  If you prefer not to deal with traffic and parking hassles in Baltimore, you can hitch a ride on Sugarloaf Conservancy's bus from Frederick County.  Cost for the bus is $20.  Contact Sugarloaf Conservancy to reserve your seat.

Potomac Edison is caught like a rat in a trap!  Cue the dissembling -- Potomac Edison is all of a sudden pretending that there is a great meter reader shortage and they're hiring.  Don't get too excited if you're looking for a job though... it only pays $12.31 an hour.  Who can support a family on that pittance?  No wonder they have a shortage of meter readers.  Perhaps they're desperate for help because they don't pay a living wage, ya think?  Staffing shortage is no excuse for violating Maryland law by not reading meters as required.

Todd, Todd, Todd... it's "unfortunate timing" that you're still completely full of crap!  The only thing that "comes out in the end" are the fabrications Todd continually spins.  I think Todd should get in his car and start reading meters instead of sitting uselessly around the office and making crap up.  He can start here, my meter hasn't been read in over 6 months.

Less spokesmodels and CEOs and more meter readers makes sense so of course it is not the practice.

Well, hey, CR, glad to see you made it through to the other end. Now you can do everything you just did last week, only in reverse!

You're absolutely right... nobody is worth that kind of money. The more money they make the less actual work they do.

Agenda for the Day

1. Golf
2. Schmooze elected officials to get my laws put in place.
3. Meet with evil henchman underlings to approve their dastardly plans to make even more money for the company by conditioning the sheeple to read their own electric meters and thereby eliminate overhead related to meter readers.
4. Golf.
5. Dream up reason for "business trip" to Aruba in corporate jet.
6. Cocktails with regulators.
7. Todd who?

What a hard worker!

My electric reading was so far off this month, it was ridiculous. It has been estimated for the past three months. So I called and got a minor adjustment. I'm on the budget plan so that didn't allow for me to get a big discount. But it's the principle of the whole thing.

Mine's off too, but I won't reveal which way it swings. If they want to know, they have to come read the meter...

I do so love a person with principles!

And you might be surprised... you may get another bill for the exact same amount... a complete waste of everyone's time! Did you ask for a credit on your bill for reading your own meter? They charge you $5 per month for that "service," but you do all the work!

With the all the money they're saving on meter readers, perhaps they'll be able to deploy smart meters and eliminate the problem. But then people might use less electricity... oh the horrors, the horrors!

No, I didn't ask for a credit but I got a new bill with the small amount taken off. And with the new bill, I got a few days extra to pay. I normally don't call them when I think my bill is off but we were gone for an entire week during this time with nothing running (and we took the dog with us so I know he wasn't home to use electric) and I just couldn't believe this bill was so high with a week of nothing running. On another note, the Dominion lines are humming again up on the mountain, they have been silent for a long time.

When I did that, I got a new bill for the same amount with a different due date. Complete waste of everyone's time.

Completely aside from all that... Did you hear Frontier's cables have been chewed through in 2 different locations by "rodents." Therefore, there is no internet or phone service in Jeff. Co. today. Reliability fail. And our time at the internet cafe is nearly up... back into the black hole of yesteryear.

I just found out that my elderly parents recently received a $1,400 electric bill because their meter has not been read in almost a year. They switched from oil heat to electric heat in October 2011, and they even called PE back in October to let them know (afraid there would be issues with estimated bills). This is outrageous!!

StopPATH Blog began as a forum for information and opinion about the PATH transmission project.  The PATH project was abandoned in 2012, however, this blog was not.

StopPATH Blog continues to bring you energy policy news and opinion from a consumer's point of view.  If it's sometimes snarky and oftentimes irreverent, just remember that the truth isn't pretty.  People come here because they want the truth, instead of the usual dreadful lies this industry continues to tell itself.  If you keep reading, I'll keep writing.
